A CityTeam is a small team of 5-6 men or women who are committed to walking with Jesus and one another. As “iron sharpens iron” so those comprising these teams sharpen, encourage, and strengthen each other.
They grow in God…together.
They become stronger…together.
Jesus modeled this well. He had the twelve disciples, but He essentially had His own “CityTeam” with Peter, James, and John. There are multiple examples from Scripture when Jesus got away from the crowd and purposefully invested into these three men. These were specifically the men that Jesus wanted by His side in Gethsemane, and these were the men Jesus trusted to continue His ministry.
The name “CityTeam” is formed from two primary goals. Our vision at HighMill Church is to be a “powerful movement.” We believe that a movement is something that extends beyond its normal place of meeting. Therefore “city” refers to our desire to be scattered, positioned, and placed in various places of our city acting as a movement and extension of the Gospel. This is our first goal.
The second goal is that we grow in Christ together. Two of our core values here at HighMill are “unified community” and “formational scripture.” Both of these hinge on doing life with others who are on the journey with us. As a result we form deep bonds and become interconnected in the church.
So when we think of the word “team” we think of groups of men and women coming together in their own groups seeking to be unified and formed by the Scriptures. There is no better way to learn the truths of God and His Word than in a team of like-minded people focused on going in the same direction who support each other.
